Artist's Comments

This is the forged rose I used to propose to my wife last year. It's forged out of stainless steel. My first forged item. Hopefully I'll have time to do some more metal work here soon.

sweet i luv black roses!

Thanks. I tried sandblasting it and running the petals through a tumbler for some color. Each process looked like I took silver Krylon to it though. So in the end I left it the worked metal look. To be honest it's not quite as dark as it shows up in this picture, but it's shiny in the least.

Thanks. I love to work with metal, but time, equipment, and space all make it a bit hard right now.

very nice. the only thng i would say is to creas the leaves down the midle. beyond that its a very nice rose.
i dont know if thers a black smith guild in nebrask or how close their meets are, but you should defenetly look into it. i know most of my local guld members would be glad to let a beginer come over and play around on their forge.
you should go to the ABANA web site to find out more.

Thanks. Yeah, I tried once to put a crease down the leaf and messed it up the first time, so I chickened out and cleaned it up. It was my first time messing around with hammer and anvil. Not sure if it's true forged or not. I forged all the pieces individually, welding one around the next. It was part of "individual work" when I was getting my welding degree. Thanks a lot for letting me know about the ABANA website. Looks like a lot of great info on there. I'm going to try to set up a place to work, but right now funds are low. Nothing like working over an anvil though.
